Engaging with Your YouTube Community: Using Hearts and Pinning Comments

Published: December 15, 2020

Enhance Your YouTube Community Engagement

The virtual environment of YouTube presents a unique opportunity to cultivate a vibrant community, an aspect that’s increasingly vital for channel growth and audience retention. Engaging with viewers can elevate their sense of involvement and turn casual viewers into dedicated subscribers. In this updated article, we’ll delve into strategies on enriching interactions with your YouTube audience through thoughtful uses of hearts and comment pinning.

Expressing Gratitude with Hearts

Recognizing your viewers’ contributions is an integral part of community building. The heart icon on YouTube serves as a simple but impactful tool to show your appreciation for their engagement. When you heart a comment, it signals that you value their input and support, enhancing the feeling of connection among community members.

To heart a comment:

  1. Navigate to one of your videos.
  2. In the comments section, find the heart icon alongside the like and dislike buttons.
  3. Click on the heart icon to display your appreciation of a particular comment.

Hearting a comment notifies the user with your channel’s icon highlighted by a red heart if they have notifications turned on. This interaction not only acknowledges the individual’s contribution but also promotes a positive atmosphere within your channel’s community.

Curating Conversations with Pinned Comments

Pinning comments is another invaluable tool in managing audience interaction. Spotlight important or insightful comments, whether from yourself or viewers, by pinning them to the top of your video’s comment section. This strategic placement ensures the most meaningful interactions are immediately visible and can guide the conversation in a constructive manner.

To pin a comment:

  1. Select the comment you wish to pin from the comment section of your video.
  2. Click on the three-dot menu icon next to the comment.
  3. Choose the ‘Pin’ option and then confirm your choice when prompted.

If there’s already a pinned comment, it will be replaced by the new selection. Pinned comments are easily recognized by a “Pinned by” tag and prominently displayed on the video’s comment section, making them unmissable to viewers.

To unpin a comment, simply select the ‘Unpin’ option, and the comment will revert to its previous position in the conversation thread.

Pinning ensures that crucial messages retain visibility, preventing them from being lost in the shuffle of the myriad of conversations that occur across your channel’s content.
