Maximizing Your YouTube Channel’s Potential: Video Chapters, RPM, and Live Control Room

Published: December 2, 2020

Welcome to the Monthly Creator Roundup

Greetings, creators! We’re excited to present the latest edition of our Monthly Creator Roundup. This time, we’re focusing on a slew of updates and features designed to take your YouTube channel to new heights. We’ll delve into understanding your audience’s viewing habits, refining your monetization tactics, and boosting your live streaming experience. Let’s kick off with the crucial updates that have made their mark this month.

Insights into Your Audience’s Active Hours

YouTube Analytics has introduced an insightful new feature in the Audience tab that reveals when your audience is most active on the platform. This data is a goldmine for timing your video uploads, scheduling premieres, or planning live events. By aligning your publishing strategy with these peak hours, you can increase engagement and ensure your content reaches viewers when they are most likely to watch.

Upgrade Your Viewer’s Experience with Video Chapters

Improving the viewer’s navigation through your content just got easier. Video Chapters, a new functionality that leverages the timestamps provided in your video descriptions, automatically creates clickable segments in the video’s progress bar. To activate Video Chapters, include a minimum of three timestamps in the description. Remember, each chapter must last at least 10 seconds and start at the 0-second mark to work correctly.

RPM: A New Way to Measure Earnings

If you’re looking to gain a better understanding of your earning performance, YouTube’s new RPM (Revenue Per Mille or thousand views) metric is here. Found within the Revenue tab of YouTube Analytics, RPM provides a holistic view of your earnings, incorporating income from ads, channel memberships, and more. This tool renders manual calculations obsolete, equipping creators with the means to evaluate content effectiveness and channel growth more efficiently. Plus, the update has shortened the minimum length for mid-roll ad eligibility to 8 minutes, creating more opportunities for you to boost your earning potential with strategic ad placement.
