How to Increase Your YouTube Channel’s Visibility by Deleting Videos

Published: April 25, 2023

The Journey to Enhanced Visibility on YouTube

In February 2021, I embarked on an ambitious journey to boost the visibility of my YouTube channel by purging it of the most popular videos and an additional 100 other pieces of content. The hypothesis was that these videos were a barrier to increasing my suggested view statistics. I am excited to share with you the narrative of this daring endeavor and unveil the astonishing outcome after half a year. Furthermore, I will unravel the decisive action I took that magnificently multiplied my homepage views by 767%. Stick around, as you’ll uncover actionable tips that could significantly enhance your channel’s presence and optimize its chances of being recommended by YouTube.

Was Unlisting Videos the Magic Bullet?

Initial aftermath of the video purge saw a dip in viewership. Nonetheless, a surprising twist emerged as my homepage views began to soar. Can this leap be solely attributed to the unlisted content? The connection isn’t exactly black or white since this change came hand-in-hand with strategic and content overhauls.

Engineering Irresistible Titles to Capture Suggested Views

Moving away from customary SEO-driven titles meant for search algorithms, I pivoted towards crafting headlines that were irresistibly clickable when they popped up on users’ YouTube home feeds. The goal was to make my videos noticeably attractive in the sea of content from other subscribed channels.

Provoking Curiosity with Ingenious Titles

An essential tactic in my strategy was to utilize titles that seeded intrigue in the minds of potential viewers, compelling them to explore my content further.
For example, consider a video on sound design with the title—’Most YouTubers Ignore This but They Really Shouldn’t.’ It surprisingly excelled, challenging the norm due to its unconventional titling approach.
The lesson learned is to decipher what captivates your target audience and employ titles that provoke thought and prompt action.

Refining Average Views per Viewer (AVV) for Optimal Recommendations

Another critical area of focus was on improving Average Views per Viewer (AVV), a metric that, although often disregarded, has tremendous influence over YouTube’s algorithm in terms of suggesting content.
AVV is the average number of times viewers watch your videos within a defined period, as seen in your analytics. It serves as a barometer for gauging audience interest and the efficacy of your content quality.
